Rian Johnson announces that filming has wrapped up on Knives Out 2, which has been shooting over the summer: now we just have to wait for it.

Netflix certainly raised a few eyebrows at the beginning of April when it announced it was stumping up a whopping $400m to acquire two sequels to Rian Johnson’s critically beloved Knives Out, the director’s homage to the sleuth movie. The first film was fun for a host of reasons, not least because of its impressive ensemble cast. And that looks set to continue with the follow-up, which boasts a line-up that is arguably more impressive than its predecessor.

Now it’s been announced that the sequel has wrapped production, with shooting taking place throughout July in Greece before moving into studio shoots until this very week.

In the film, Daniel Craig will return as Detective Benoit Blanc, alongside new characters depicted by Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke.

Johnson announced the end of production himself, via Twitter. Ever the gentleman, he also used the tweet to promote Leos Carax’s new film, Annette, as well as thanking his own cast and crew.

We don’t yet know when Netflix will be making Knives Out 2 available on its platform, and given that post-production on the movie is likely to eat up several months, towards the middle of next year seems more likely. When we get formal news on that, we’ll let you know…
