Laurence Fishburne is set to return as the Bowery King in the next instalment of the John Wick action franchise.

The upcoming production of John Wick 4, set to shoot in France, Germany and Japan later this summer, continues to take shape with the news that Laurence Fishburne will be reprising his role as the Bowery King.

Fishburne will join the already-announced Donnie Yen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Shamier Anderson (Stowaway) and Japanese-British popstar Rina Sawayama, not to mention Bill Skarsgard, whose casting seems to fit the space for a villainous character.

Fishburne had this to say about joining the project: “I read the script. It’s really, really cool. As much as it’s the same world as the other three films, it’s just deeper. It’s much deeper in terms of the code of the assassin and the relationship that he has with one character in particular who I think Mr. Watanabe is playing… is really the heart and soul of it.”

It’s probably worth highlighting Fishburne’s comments about ‘Mr Watanabe’ here. Either Ken Watanabe has joined the cast and is as yet officially unannounced, or Fishburne is referring to a character, rather than an actor. Perhaps Donnie Yen’s character, especially as it has been announced that Yen will be playing an old friend of Wick’s.

The film is said to be shooting back to back with John Wick 5, so expect to hear plenty more details in the coming months. We’ll keep you posted, as always, as we hear more.
