Reese Witherspoon’s return to play Elle Woods is running a little later than planned – but Legally Blonde 3 will finally be with us in May 2022.
It falls a little into 2020 cliché to start a story with something along the lines of ‘if all had gone to plan this year’, but here we are once again. If all had gone to plan this year, then the third official Legally Blonde movie – we can’t really count the straight to DVD spin-off Legally Blondes – would have at least started filming.
This is the movie that sees Reese Witherspoon returning to the role of Elle Woods for the first time in just under two decades. We know too that Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor had been working on the screenplay, and at one stage, a release in 2020 was even mooted as well.
That clearly isn’t going to happen, but MGM has now announced the film very much is. Legally Blonde 3 – which we presume it won’t be called – has been given an official release date of May 2022. That means, filling in the blanks, the shoot is likely to take place next year.
We still don’t know who’s going to direct the film, and there’s a bit more casting to fill in. As we hear more, we’ll let you know…
