Want a bit more Toy Story? Catch your first look at the Buzz Lightyear prequel film right here.

Insert your own ‘to infinity and beyond’ gag here, as the trailer for Lightyear has arrived. The action-packed preview of the upcoming Pixar film gives us our first glimpse, amongst other things, Lightyear’s spaceship, and his hair. The film is directed by Pixar veteran animator, Angus MacLane, who was also a co-director on Finding Dory.

The film’s aesthetic has shifted slightly, moving away from the cartoony style of Toy Story, into something just a little more realistic. We thus get muted colours, slightly less cartoonish characters. Of course, there will be some fans out there who are still unhappy that the character’s original voice actor, Tim Allen has been replaced by Chris Evans, but the film will have its chance to change their minds when it releases in June of next year.

Here’s the trailer…

We’ll leave you with the film’s official synopsis:

The sci-fi action-adventure presents the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear — the hero who inspired the toy — introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans.
