The infamous 1994 Street Fighter movie is getting a brand new Blu-ray release in the Autumn – more details right this way.

One of the very earliest attempts to take what works about videogames and bring it to the big screen, it’d be fair to suggest that the Street Fighter movie of 1994 wasn’t the most successful of enterprises.

You can’t accuse it of not attracting an interesting cast: Jean-Claude Van Damme was pretty near the peak of his Hollywood powers when he signed on to lead the movie, alongside the late, great Raul Julia, Ming-Na Wen and Kylie Minogue.

Written and directed by Steven E De Souza, this Guardian article gives a good overview of what happened.

The critical and commercial mauling the film took, though, hasn’t stopped it becoming something of a cult favourite. And capitalising on that will be a brand new Blu-ray release, that’s being lined up for this autumn.

88 Films is behind the release, which is being limited to 3000 units in the UK. No further details on the Blu-ray have thus far been forthcoming, but we’ll keep you posted.

The disc will be release on September 28th, and the preorder listing is here.
