Paul Feig is returning to helm the sequel to the 2018 mystery comedy A Simple Favour, following its critical and commercial success.

Lionsgate has  announced that Paul Feig will be returning to direct a sequel to his 2018 film, A Simple Favour.

The studio will be partnering with Amazon Studios to produce the film, which will also see both Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively reprise their roles from the original. The first film proved to be good business for Lionsgate, earning somewhere near the $100m mark, despite costing just $20m to produce.

The first movie followed Kendrick’s Stephanie, a single mom who also presents a cuddly parenting vlog. When Stephanie befriends Emily, an enigmatic and classy woman (Lively) who also has a child at the same school, things go well until Emily goes missing. At that point, Stephanie takes it upon herself to investigate the disappearance and the film veers into territory that is equal parts mystery and comedy.

Alongside performing well commercially, A Simple Favour was critically praised too, so we’re sure there’ll be plenty of people keen to see where Feig takes the story from this point forwards. No production details or release window have yet been revealed but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
