Expect Mads Mikkelsen to take on wolves and highwaymen in his quest to rid the land of threats in the name of the king.

Mads Mikkelsen is to reunite with director Nicolaj Arcel to make King’s Land, it has been announced. The actor previously worked with Arcel on 2012’s A Royal Affair and the duo will be returning to the period drama genre for their next project.

King’s Land is set to be a take on the genre that promises plenty of action as Mikkelsen and co-star, Raised by Wolves’ Amanda Collin, find their characters trying to bring order to uncivilised part of 17th Century Denmark.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'The story follows the attempt by Danish King Frederik V to take, cultivate and colonise an unforgiving area populated by wolves and highwaymen. Mikkelsen will play Ludwig von Kahlen, a military captain determined to tame the wild lands for the king. Collin will play Ann Barbara, a mysterious woman who crosses Kahlen’s path, forever changing his fate.’

The project is set to go before the cameras in September and sports a budget of around $8.5m. Mikkelsen is good value in anything he puts his name to, so we’ll be keeping an eye on this one and will let you know as we hear more.
