Fantastic Beasts 3 has a new Grindelwald, with Mads Mikkelsen stepping into the role that Johnny Depp was asked to resign.
Warner Bros has moved quickly when it comes to the casting of Fantastic Beasts 3, which lost Johnny Depp from the role of Gellert Grindelwald last week. Depp was asked to resign the role by Warner Bros, following his high-profile libel trial with The Sun newspaper, that he duly lost.
As such, the key role of Grindelwald needed recasting for the Fantastic Beasts saga to continue, and that’s what’s happened. It’s not gone to Colin Farrell though, as some fans had been hoping, with Mads Mikkelsen now being lined up to take the part on.
Some footage had been shot for the new movie, but none that involved Depp. That means that Mikkelsen should be able to slide into the part quickly enough. The new release date for the movie is set for July 2022.
