Manchester is getting a drive-in cinema in response to the closure of traditional movie palaces.

Social distancing is now in force around the UK in response to the spread of Coronavirus, and we’re all being rightly advised to keep at least two metres away from other people if we absolutely have to go out, but otherwise staying put at home.

You don’t need us to tell you that the nation’s cinemas have closed their doors, and there’s uncertainty as to when they’re going to reopen. But in Manchester, one solution has popped up: the return of the drive-in cinema.

It starts at the EventCity venue in the city with screenings commencing on Thursday March 26th. The beauty of this is you simply don’t leave your car. Three huge screens will be showing the movies, and the full programme of features – from Mary Poppins Returns to Shazam – is now online. Tickets are available too, and the price is £20 per car.

Two screenings are taking place each day at the Stretford-based venue, and you can find more information here. Obviously plans may change in the light of Boris Johnson’s ordered UK lockdown, however, but at the moment, dates are on sale through until the end of April.
