Mark Kermode’s Exorcist documentary to get extended iPlayer life

The acclaimed The Fear Of God documentary is to stay on the BBC iPlayer service indefinitely.

After a few technical gremlins, Mark Kermode and Nick Freand Jones’ acclaimed documentary about the making of The Exorcist, The Fear Of God, made its debut on the BBC iPlayer service. The documentary was first made and seen in 1998, but the full version of it had been restricted to the likes of festival screenings. However, after some toing and froing, the full version was made available on iPlayer on October 31st.

Mark Kermode, on last week’s Kermode & Mayo Film Review programme on Radio Five Live, revealed that it’s getting a longer life too. He said that originally the idea was to put the documentary on the service for Halloween, and then that got extended. But that now, the plan is to leave The Fear Of God on BBC iPlayer indefinitely.

Sadly, after an extended run too for the excellent Mark Kermode’s Secrets Of Cinema series on BBC Four (that Kermode made with Jones and Kim Newman, amongst others), just one episode of that currently remains available on iPlayer. Hopefully, a deal can be struck both for more Secrets Of Cinema, and also to bring the currently unavailable episodes back.
