Disney and Marvel update the opening to 2018’s Black Panther, in honour of the late Chadwick Boseman.
Marvel has updated its studio ident at the beginning of Black Panther to mark what would have been star Chadwick Boseman’s 44th birthday. Boseman tragically died of cancer earlier this year in news that shocked and saddened the world.
Disney’s Bob Iger teased the update – which has been added to the Disney+ version of Black Panther – yesterday, ahead of its release today. The usual Marvel Studios opening features an array of characters leading into the familiar logo in its usual orangey-red. This introduction instead focuses solely on Boseman’s T’Challa, eventually fading into the Marvel logo with a deep purple background, signifying the colour of the plant that gives the hero his powers.
It’s a lovely tribute to the actor who was taken from us far, far too young. You can watch the introduction below, which serves as a touching reminder of many of the great moments Boseman brought to the Marvel films.
