The big screen production of the award-winning Matilda stage musical continues to add to its ensemble, ahead of its shoot this year.

Originally set to shoot last year, it looks as though production on the Matilda musical’s big screen adaptation will finally be going ahead soon.

Based on the acclaimed 2010 stage production, which in turn is based on the Roald Dahl book, the new film is directed by the team behind the former. That’s writer Dennis Kelly (who’s penning the screenplay), director Matthew Warchus, with Tim Minchin on music and lyrics duty.

We already know some of the cast for the film, with Ralph Fiennes taking on the role of Miss Trunchbull. Now we learn that Lashana Lynch has jumped aboard too, and she’ll be playing Matilda’s kind teacher, Miss Honey.

The film is a co-production between Sony Pictures and Netflix, with the former set to release the movie in the UK.

No word of a release date yet, but wouldn’t this be a lovely treat for Christmas? We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
