Maxine Peake, Jason Isaacs and Ciaran Hinds are all set to feature in Mother Russia: more details on the soon-to-film movie here.
One of the many new projects being announced at the Cannes Film Festival is a new drama called Mother Russia. This one’s going to tell the story of journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya, and she’s set to be played by Maxine Peake in the movie.
Politkovskaya started as a local newspaper journalist before building a career where she exposed corruption under Vladimir Putin, ultimately paying with her life.
Alongside Peake in the movie will be Ciaran Hinds (coming off the back of his Oscar nomination for Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast) and Jason Isaacs (hello).
James Strong is directing, working from a screenplay by Eric Poppen. The movie will film in the UK and Latvia towards the end of the summer. More on it as we hear it.
