Director Mike Leigh will be making his latest film this year, as funding comes together.

Since the release of Peterloo in 2018, his most expensive film but not necessarily his most financially successful, we’ve heard on and off reports that financing had been a struggling for Mike Leigh’s next picture. We didn’t report it because it felt a bit too rumour-y, and thankfully, it may not have proven to be true. For news has landed that his new project will be going before the cameras this coming summer.

The film currently has no title, but thanks to a union of Cornerstone Films, Film4, Ingenious and The Mediapro Studio, funding has come together for the production. Furthermore, distribution has been secured too, with Entertainment One and Bleeker Street set to put the film out in the UK and the US.

Georgina Lowe is on board as producer, with Gail Egan as executive producer. We don’t have any casting news as of yet, nor a release date. We’re just really pleased that Leigh has a new film on the way. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
