The return of Gru and the Minions is delayed by a year for a second time: it’s now with us in 2022.

Whilst Hollywood is finally considering actually releasing some films and fixing their release dates, there are still one or two delays filtering through. For instance, Universal is set to move Fast & Furious 9 back a few more weeks (although it’s still arriving this summer), whilst on the other hand, Paramount is now looking at bringing A Quiet Place: Part II forward from autumn to spring.

However, Minions 2: The Rise Of Gru – a film that’s already been delayed by a year – has now been put back a further 12 months. That the movie had been set to land on July 2nd 2021, and now its release has shifted again to July 1st 2022.

The movie itself is finished, and Universal would have had $1bn box office expectations for this one. Perhaps there’s a sign of not enough confidence in the family movie market at the moment. Whatever the reason, the Minions will be away from the big screen for at least another year…
