Roland Emmerich is about to make the moon smash into the Earth: here’s the trailer for Moonfall.

Very much yes please. Roland Emmerich is hardly a director to allow little things like science to get in the way of a good yarn, and he appears to have repeated his trick again. This time, it’s for a movie called Moonfall. It’s about something knocking the moon out of its orbit and sending it crashing towards the Earth, in a bit of scientific jiggery-pokery that, well, let’s just say might not hold up to a great deal of scrutiny.

That notwithstanding, it looks an absolute hoot. It boasts an ensemble cast that includes Halle Berry, Stanley Tucci, Patrick Wilson, Donald Sutherland, John Bradley and Charlie Plummer. As well as directing, Emmerich has co-penned the script with Spenser Cohen and Harald Kloser. And, well, we’ve got an announcement trailer, whatever one of those is.

The film lands on February 4th 2022, and here’s a taste of what’s to come…

So far, it could only be improved if Gerard Butler popped up in the background. We’ll leave you with the synopsis for the film…

In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Academy Award® winner Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson, “Midway”) and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley, “Game of Thrones”) believes her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.
