Empire Cinemas opens one of its multiplexes, and more Showcase Cinemas are opening their doors around England from today – more here.

Slowly but surely, more and more cinema chains across England are starting to reopen. Around 50 sites opened around the country last week, and today, both the Showcase and Empire chains are opening doors.

In the case of Empire, it’s testing the water with the reopening of one of its cinemas, the Great Park complex in Rubery, Birmingham. That just happens to be our local, and it’ll be reopening with a collection of primarily older films, including The Dark Knight Rises, The Empire Strikes Back and Guardians Of The Galaxy.

As for Showcase, as promised it’s now opening up its sites at Southampton, Dudley, Derby, Walsall and Bristol. That still leaves seven of its multiplexes closed for the time being.

Vue and Cineworld’s doors remain shut until the end of the month at the earliest. An assortment of Odeons are now open for business, meanwhile.

More as we hear it.
