Take a look at the test reel for the abandoned $170m movie of Mouse Guard.

One of the many casualties when Disney took over Fox – aside from the thousands of jobs – was a hugely ambitious movie of the comic book series Mouse Guard. It was to be directed by Maze Runner helmer Wes Ball – who is now working on the next Planet Of The Apes film – and work had been ongoing for some time.

So much so that Fox had tentatively greenlit the movie, with a $170m production budget, and pre-production was well underway.

Then in came Disney, and Mouse Guard was one of the first projects that it shut down, as it significantly chopped the number of movies that Fox was set to make. Ball, around the time of the decision, shared on social media images of the production office, which in turn featured concept art from the film. But – even though it’s been sat on YouTube for over six months – we’d never seen this demo reel before (appreciating it was reported in some places when it first landed).

Turns out a nine minute proof of concept demo was put together, and it gives a flavour as to the look the film was going to take…

The film, sadly, is in seemingly permanent turnaround. But if that ever changes, we’ll let you know…
