See the acclaimed Barber Shop Chronicles for free, as it joins the National Theatre At Home programme from tonight – details here.

Last week came the very welcome news that the National Theatre was extending its programme of streaming plays for free whilst we’re all in some degree of lockdown. That it’s been taking productions that it had previously beamed into cinemas, and has been releasing them for free, one week at a time, via its YouTube channel

Next on the list, then, is Barber Shop Chronicles, and in this case it’s billed as a never-before-seen archive recording of the hit play from Inua Ellams. It’s described as a “heart-warming, hilarious and insightful new play” that “leaps from a barber shop in Peckham to Johannesburg, Harare, Kampala, Lagos and Accra over the course of a single day”.

Directed by Bijan Sheibani, the award-winning play will be available from 7pm tonight at the National Theatre YouTube channel. You’ll be able to find it below, or click through to go straight to YouTube.

A resource pack is also available for the play, that you can find here.

And the full cast list is here.

As always, the production will be available for seven days before it’s taken down.
