Nicolas Cage might just return for a long-mooted third National Treasure film after all.

A sequel that was missing, presumed dead, is the third National Treasure film. Disney, in its pre-Marvel days, scored a pair of live action hits with the movies, that starred Nicolas Cage. Jon Turteltaub directed, and there had been talk for some time of a National Treasure 3. Talk that seemed to go pretty much nowhere in the end.

For some reason though, there appears to be very welcome fresh interest in the movie. So much so that a new writer has been hired to take a crack at a screenplay. Chris Bremner, who co-wrote the hit sequel Bad Boys For Life, has been given the gig. Both films as it happens are being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Whether Cage and Turteltaub return is unclear, and likewise whether Disney would be tempted to release National Treasure 3 theatrically, or instead push it towards its Disney+ streaming service instead.
