Not only are we getting a new National Treasure film, but a television series is heading to Disney+ as well, it’s been revealed.

It’s always been a bit of a surprise that a third National Treasure film never happened, in spite of the interest of most of the key creatives. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer for one was always said to be keen on the project, whilst director Jon Turteltaub has stayed in touch with the possible further sequel as well.

Nicolas Cage isn’t shy of taking on a few movies, either.

Yet National Treasure 3 – whilst never being fully ruled out – hasn’t happened, and it’s been 13 years now since the second movie. However, earlier this year came the news that Chris Bremner (Bad Boys For Life) had been hired to pen a screenplay for the movie.

And now, chatting to Collider, Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed not just a third film, but a planned television series for Disney+ too.

“We’re certainly working on one for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen”, he said.

“Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active”.

He added that “the one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast”.

No timescales as of yet, but after years awaiting a further National Treasure project, it now turns out that there are two of them on the way…
