Netflix has revealed the trailer for the upcoming drama The Lost Daughter. The film is helmed by the talented Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is always excellent value in front of the camera, though The Lost Daughter sees her make her debut as director.

In the film Olivia Colman ‘plays a woman trying to enjoy a beach vacation when her peace and quiet get disturbed with the loud arrival of a family with a young mother (Dakota Johnson).

She now finds herself obsessed with the younger woman which leads her to recall secrets from her past. Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Mescal, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ed Harris and Dagmara Dominczyk co-star.’

With an interesting premise, a talented cast and a first-time director with lots of promise, we’re keen to see this one. In the US at least, it’s getting a limited theatrical run from the 17th December, though no word on that here as of yet. The film had been set to be distributed by Entertainment One in the UK, who had overseen its London Film Festival premiere last week. Netflix has subsequently grabbed the UK rights.

It’ll pop up on the service on December 31st. In the meantime, you can catch the trailer below.
