Netflix’s Blood Red Sky trailer is essentially vampires on a plane

The upcoming Blood Red Sky is the type of high-concept thriller we never realised we needed – until now.

Film history has proved that putting something on a plane basically makes it five times better than not putting it on a plane. Snakes; the President of the United States of America; a bunch of dangerous criminals… it really doesn’t matter what plot element you’re juggling, stick it on a plane and it instantly becomes a better movie.

That’s clearly Netflix’s logic here as it launches the trailer for Blood Red Sky, its upcoming suspense flick that combines vampires and planes in the sort of high-concept mashup that we never knew we wanted, but now can’t stop thinking about.

The following trailer is only a brief one, so with the film releasing just next month on July 23rd, we may yet see a longer glimpse, but even this quick glimpse piqued our interest.

The film is a British/German co-production written by Stefan Holtz and Peter Thorwarth, who is also the director. It’s part of Netflix’s headline-grabbing announcement of releasing a film every single week and the brief synopsis reads as such:

A woman with a mysterious illness is forced into action when a group of terrorists attempt to hijack a transatlantic overnight flight. In order to protect her son she will have to reveal a dark secret, and unleash the inner monster she has fought to hide.

We’re certainly on board for this one. Consider our seatbelts fastened and our luggage securely stowed away. Now where are the vampires?
