Adam Wingard will be jumping from Godzilla Vs Kong to the new Face/Off movie – more details here.

Paramount Pictures is pressing ahead with its planned new movie set around John Woo’s 90s action favourite Face/Off. The original film saw John Travolta and Nicolas Cage trading places. We’re not at the point yet where we found out who’s going to be doing the same in the new version.

But we do know who’s going to be directing. Adam Wingard, who’s recently helmed both Godzilla Vs Kong and Blair Witch – but broke through with films such as The Guest and You’re Next – is Paramount’s choice. He’s going to be writing the script with his regular collaborator Simon Barrett. A screenplay that had been in place from Oren Uziel is now not being used.

Deadline reports that Wingard will approach the project as a follow-up to the original if anything – and not a remake, as had been reported – but also that the two lead roles will likely be recast.

It’s still likely to be quite a way off happening, with Wingard’s immediate priority being press duties for Godzilla Vs Kong. But more on the Face/Off project as we hear it.

In the meantime, here’s our podcast episode on the original film…
