New film musical based on Lionel Richie songs coming from Disney

Following in the path of Mamma Mia! and Yesterday, a new film set to the music of Lionel Richie is in the early stages of development.

A quid if you saw this one coming. Disney is the latest studio to dig into the catalogue of contemporary recording artists for a feature film, and it’s settled its attention on Lionel Richie.

It’s put into development a project that’s going by the name All Night Long, and the idea is to use his songs to form a live action narrative feature. The script for the film is being written by Pete Chiarelli (who has credits on features such as Crazy Rich Asians and The Proposal), and the project is in its early stages of development.

The idea for the film came from Richie himself, who Variety reports pitched the project at the start of the year.

When we get more news of who is directing, and when it’s ready for production to go forward, we’ll let you know. More as we hear it.
