New trailer drops for True History of the Kelly Gang

Nothing is true, yet everything is gorgeous in the visually arresting trailer for True History Of The Kelly Gang.

Chances are, if you’ve seen Justin Kurzel’s 2015 film adaptation of Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, you won’t be surprised when you view this trailer and take in some of the stunning visuals on offer. Kurzel’s Macbeth left itself open to criticisms from some quarters of being an somewhat empty film (although this writer was, and remains, a fan). One element that was however, beyond reproach was the film’s aesthetic which elevated the moors, heaths and castles of Scotland to a level of cinematic beauty that has rarely been matched. Now Kurzel has turned his attention to another area of remote wilderness and the barbarism that occurs beyond the edges of civilisation with the tale of Australian outlaw, Ned Kelly.

The film looks to be a revisionist take of sorts, with a squealing guitar soundtrack at odds with the era and a title card proclaiming ‘Nothing you are about to see is true.’ The cast looks great too, with George Mackay, Esse Davis, Charlie Hunnam and Russell Crowe all starring. Mostly though, the trailer is worth a watch for its gorgeous visuals which are well worth taking a moment for.

The film has premiered at film festivals already, earning good reviews and will release here in the UK on February 28th, 2020.
