Michael Fassbender is to headline the remake of Next Goal Wins.

Before filmmaker Taika Waititi returns to the world of Marvel with another Thor movie (Thor: Love And Thunder), he’s got a couple more projects on his plate as director.

Firstly, there’s the release of his already-acclaimed JoJo Rabbit, that arrives in the UK next January. And then there’s his take on the documentary movie Next Goal Wins.

Next Goal Wins is the true story of a football coach who takes on the perennially successful American Samoa side, and tries to get them to win a game. Waititi, along with Iain Morris, has penned the screenplay for his take on the story, and the cast looks like it’s coming together.

Notably, Michael Fassbender is now reported to be in talks for a lead role in the movie. Further casting can’t be too far behind.

Filming is expected to start soon – although Waititi is also filming a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad next – and we might just get a release before the end of next year.

More as we hear it.
