A new take on the Rapunzel story is getting the live action treatment from Disney.
Sooner or later, Disney will exhaust its stable of animated hits that it’s slowly recycling/updating/remaking as live action movies. Scrub that: it’s going to be later, with last week’s news of Aladdin 2 happening, and now the latest addition to the slate, a live action take on the Rapunzel story.
This tale, you may recall, has been tackled relatively recently by Disney, with the animated hit Tangled.
The script this time is being worked on by Ashleigh Powell (who wrote The Nutcracker And The Four Realms), and there’s no word yet on who will direct the movie. What does appear to be clear is that the movie will be targeted for cinemas, and not for the Disney+ streaming service.
Whether the new film steers closer to The Brothers’ Grimm’s Rapunzel text, or follows the path of Tangled remains to be seen. More news on this as we hear it.
