Nutty Professor films are getting a(nother) reboot

The Nutty Professor has been a hit for Jerry Lewis and Eddie Murphy – and now somebody else is going to get a go in the title role.

Hollywood is going for a third time around on The Nutty Professor series, with the news that a fresh reboot of the movies is now being prepared.

The most recent movies of course featured Eddie Murphy in the lead role. In fact, 1996’s The Nutty Professor was a big box office reboot for him, and was followed by the also commercially successful sequel The Klumps in the year 2000.

But the films originated with comedian Jerry Lewis in 1963, and the Murphy movies were a reboot of his.

Now, a company called Project X Entertainment has picked up the rights to the franchise, and it’s in the early stages of a fresh reboot. The producers behind the upcoming Scream 5 are involved in this one, and the idea will be to put together a package of star, director and screenplay, and then see what studios are interested in making the movie.

More news on this one as we get it.
