Indoor cinemas around the UK will be opening in just under two weeks, as Odeon confirms the majority of its sites will be opening their doors.

They’ve been closed all year, and there were shut for a good deal of last as well – but Odeon has now confirmed that it will be throwing open the doors of virtually all of its cinemas in just under two weeks.

Indoor cinemas in the UK can open again from May 17th, assuming the government presses ahead with the latest stage of its lockdown easing (although those in Northern Ireland have another week to wait). And whilst big blockbuster movies will be in short supply for the first few weeks – but heck, there’s still a staggering selection of films on the way – Odeon joins Vue and Cineworld in confirming its reopening.

Few are expecting visitor numbers to be anywhere close to normal for a good while yet, but conversely, there’s hope that the footfall this time around will be higher than the last time cinemas reopened after an extensive lockdown, last summer.

Testing times ahead, but perhaps with a little more optimism this time around…
