Everybody’s favourite marmalade-loving bear will return for a third instalment, StudioCanal confirms – and thank goodness for that.

Care to hear some very good news? StudioCanal has confirmed that Paddington 3 is officially happening.

We’ve known for a while that the bear from Darkest Peru would most likely be returning, with series regular Hugh Bonneville recently saying it was happening. Still, it’s nice to hear it through official channels as it means we don’t have to fix StudioCanal with our hard stare now.

After two splendid films, as previously reported, director Paul King is stepping away from directing the third and will instead produce. King is focusing his directing energies instead on the recently-announced Wonka, the planned project that will tell the secret origin of eccentric Roald Dahl creation, Willy Wonka. No word yet on just who the new director will be, though.

The Paddington series, which features the talents of Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Julie Walters and of course Ben Whishaw (among many others) may yet take some time to return. Without a director, we’d imagine the film is still rather early in development.

Still, the announcement alone is enough to put a smile on our face. We’ll keep you updated with more Paddington 3 news as we hear it.
