From the start of 2021, Paramount will be putting its UK disc releases through a company owned by Lionsgate and StudioCanal.
It’s been nearly five years now since Paramount exited the home entertainment business itself in the UK and instead signed a deal with Universal to distribute it films and TV shows on disc in the UK. It’s been a successful venture too, and others have followed suit with, for instance, Entertainment One now putting its disc releases through Universal too.
Now though, Paramount’s deal has come to an end, and in a surprisingly move, it’s moving its business to Elevation from the start of next year. Elevation is a sales company that’s a joint venture between Lionsgate and StudioCanal, and it has now secured the Paramount sales and distribution contract, effective from January 2021. It comes at a time when Paramount is freshly exploring releasing more catalogue movie titles to disc, and the deal also covers the likes of Nickelodeon and Showtime releases too.
Paramount continues to oversee the marketing and digital releases for its UK releases itself. More over at The Raygun and its newsletter, here.
