Mel Gibson is finally pressing ahead with his follow up to The Passion Of The Christ going by the name Resurrection.

To date one of the most profitable independent films of all time, The Passion Of The Christ was made in 2004, with writer/director Mel Gibson putting in chunks of the funding outside of the studio system. Over $600m in box office returns later, and Gibson never needed to work again.

He has been working, as well as going through many other things that have been widely reported around the internet. He’s a man with his demons, and he’s a man who hasn’t always seemed to treat others particularly well, allegedly. A quick Google will fill in the blanks there.

And Gibson has for some time been mulling a follow-up to The Passion Of The Christ, with Jim Caviezel set to reprise the role of Jesus Christ. Gibson hired Randall Wallace, the screenwriter of Braveheart, to put together a script. And now it seems the film is pretty much ready to start shooting.

The new film will go by the name of Resurrection, and it’ll cover the days between Christ’s crucifixion, and then his resurrection too. As you’d expect from the title.

Filming is set to get underway in the spring, with Gibson directing. A 2024 release date is mooted. Don’t be surprised if it lands around Easter…
