We’re getting a new Paul Thomas Anderson movie in 2021 it’s been announced, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing it thank you.

It’s fair to say that a new Paul Thomas Anderson film is always something of a big deal. The director’s knack for innately human storytelling, a visually rich cinematic style and the fact that he often squeezes out career-best performances from some of the world’s leading actors, mean that his projects are always highly-anticipated. Now, we know when to expect his ninth, as yet untitled film, in cinemas. Happily, it will be this year.

The US release date for the upcoming movie has been announced, with it seeing a limited opening from November 26th, leading up to a nationwide opening by Christmas Day. No UK release date has yet been mentioned but we’d expect it to arrive here within that same window.

The film itself takes place in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s. The location is one that Anderson has used before in several of his movies, including Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love and Boogie Nights. Bradley Cooper stars, whilst the late Philip Seymour Hoffman’s son, Cooper, also features. Also on board is Benny Safdie of musical group Haim, for whom Anderson has shot several music videos.

Whilst little is known about the project, which currently has the working title of Soggy Bottom, we do know the film follows a high school student, who is also a successful child actor. We’ll bring you more as we hear it, including the film’s title and UK release date.
