Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta gets April UK release

The new film from Paul Verhoeven, Benedetta, is getting a UK cinema release it’s been confirmed, with Mubi announcing an April date.

The latest film from director Paul Verhoeven is on the way to the UK, but we’ve got a little bit to wait yet. Mubi had snapped up the UK distribution rights to Benedetta, and it’s now confirmed that it’s planning a UK and Ireland cinema release for the film on April 22nd 2022.

Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling, Daphne Patakia, Lambert Wilson and Olivier Rabourdin star in the film, that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last spring.

The synopsis for the film reads as follows…

Set in the late 17th century and inspired by true events, a woman joins a convent in Pescia, Tuscany as a plague ravages the land that surrounds it. Capable of performing miracles from an early age, Benedetta becomes entangled in a forbidden lesbian affair that will threaten to shake the Church to its core.
