The former 007 Pierce Brosnan will be going toe to toe with The Rock in the planned Shazam! spin-0ff Black Adam.

Just yesterday we reported that Helen Mirren had joined the cast of the Shazam! sequel, Fury Of The Gods. Now some equally promising casting news has emerged from the series’ spin-off project, Black Adam. Pierce Brosnan, the super-smooth former James Bond will be playing Doctor Fate, the enigmatic sorcerer and one of the founding members of the Justice Society of America.

With Dwayne Johnson playing the title character in a project that he  signed on for seven years ago, Brosnan rounds out an enticing ensemble that already includes Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.

Brosnan will reportedly play Kent Nelson, a good incarnation of the character who like many superheroes has seen several different people don the mantle of Doctor Fate throughout the character’s history. With the supporting cast taking shape, it’s becoming apparent that the Justice Society of America may play a prominent role within the film as all of the characters listed above were members at some point.

Whether the film will link into the Shazam! franchise remains to be seen as yet, but we’ll bring you more details on this one as it finally rolls into production just three weeks from now.
