Sad news: Marion Ramsey has passed away, after a long and varied career in and around her fame in the Police Academy films.

Marion Ramsey, best known to many as Police Academy's gentle and shy female cop who could – at a moment’s notice – unleash the kind of ‘sound and fury’ that Shakespeare was most likely referring to when he penned those words, has died. She was 73.

Whilst chiefly known for portraying Officer Laverne Hooks from 1984’s Police Academy through to 1989’s Police Academy 6: City Under Siege, she also worked on Broadway and in film and television. Her final film project came in the 2018 feature film, When I Sing.

As well as spending a lifetime performing and creating one of the 1980s’ most memorable comedy characters, Ramsey was also a passionate advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness. Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this sad time.
