A special edition Blu-ray disc release of Naked Gun forerunner Police Squad! is imminent, after a short delay.

The wonderful The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad! is just the kind of film that’s very welcome in these troubling times. It’s a movie that never, in our experience, fails to raise a titter. And whilst its two sequels don’t hit the same heights, seeing the late Leslie Nielsen on prime form as Lieutenant Frank Drebin is very much one of life’s pleasures.

As many people know, too, The Naked Gun films spun out of the glorious six-episode TV show Police Squad!, which is where we met Drebin for the first time. The show was a ratings failure, yanked from the airwaves early. But since it debuted in the early 80s, its reputation has only grown.

So much so that here we are, in the year 2020, able to report that the show is getting its first ever UK Blu-ray release. Furthermore, a DVD reissue is coming alongside it too. It had been set for release last month, but now it’s definitely arriving on May 25th.

Chums, if you’ve never had the pleasure, you’re in for a treat. And the new release comes with audio commentaries too, behind the scenes material, a gag reel and casting tests. It’s subtitled too.

The series is available to order right here, where you can also find a few more details.

We’ll leave you with the box art (and a link to the podcast we did on The Naked Gun).
