Work has begun on bringing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats musical to the big screen…
British production juggernaut Working Title has another film on the go, with the long-mooted big screen adaptation of the musical Cats now filming in the UK.
Based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name, which in turn was based on T S Eliot’s writing, the Cats film is being directed by Tom Hooper. He previously brought Les Miserables to the big screen, and won an Oscar for directing The King’s Speech.
The ensemble for the movie features Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Sir Ian McKellen, Dame Judi Dench, Idris Elba and Rebel Wilson, amongst others. Hooper penned the screenplay for the film, along with Lee Hall.
Filming will go through until the end of February, and Universal will distribute the movie. It should be in cinemas around next Christmas.
