Antonio Banderas will be returning for the long-mooted sequel to Puss In Boots – more details right this way.

Here’s a surprise announcement. DreamWorks Animation is finally moving ahead with a sequel to 2011’s Shrek spin-off Puss In Boots – a decade after the first film landed.

The movie featured Antonio Banderas voicing the title role, and it was a hit for the studio when it was released. There had been constant talk of a follow-up, but that bubbled up just as DreamWorks Animation movies started stumbling at the box office. Furthermore, the studio then squeezed its slate of projects as more and more of its movies failed to meet financial expectations. Eventually, it was sold, and became part of Universal Pictures.

It thus looks like Universal has brought this one back to life, following the relative success of last year’s The Croods: A New Age. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish will thus see Banderas return in the lead role, and it’s scheduled for release on September 23rd 2022 (October 21st in the UK).

Joel Crawford is directing the movie, and as we hear more on it, we’ll let you know…
