American Son is the second feature directorial outing from Blue Story’s Andrew Onwubolu, and Russell Crowe will be taking a lead role.

Following the success of his debut feature Blue Story last year, writer and director Andrew Onwubolu – aka Rapman – has another ambitious project on his slate. His next film is going to be a remake of the acclaimed French movie A Prophet, a project that Hollywood had been developing on and off for many years.

Now it’s pressing ahead, and it’s going by the name of American Son. What’s more, we now learn that Russell Crowe has signed up to take the lead role in the movie.

Dennis Lehane has penned the screenplay for the movie, and Paramount Pictures is backing the project. The search is currently on for the film’s protagonist.

That said, the film looks like its schedule is slotting into place. Over at Rapman’s Twitter account, he revealed he knows when the film is heading into production. And he seems, understandably, really rather pleased about it…

He’s not as of yet sharing what that date is, but as we hear more, we’ll let you know…
