Red band trailer for The Suicide Squad arrives

James Gunn’s reimagining of the DC Films’ anti-hero superteam The Suicide Squad looks as fun as we hoped it might be.

Over the weekend, the first full trailer dropped for The Suicide Squad, James Gunn’s soft reboot of the property, following 2016’s poorly received – but commercially very successful – Suicide Squad.

Featuring a raft of talent, irreverent humour, a groovy soundtrack and the odd spot of graphic, splatterpunk gore, the trailer indicates that the film’s tone looks like everything that fans hoped it might be. Oh, and in such a packed ensemble cast, it looks like Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark might the one who steals all the best lines.

DC Films’ ‘Extended Universe’ has been the subject of much online nattering lately as fans discuss what is and isn’t canon in the wake of the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.  The four hour cut of the 2017 film has retconned many elements of the DCEU, but Warner Bros insists is not canon. Gunn’s take on The Suicide Squad seems connected to the DCEU of course, via its predecessor, but with so many characters to introduce and serve, we doubt there’ll be too much focus on how this tale fits into the wider DC Extended Universe.

The film itself is set to release on August 6th here in the UK. You can catch your first glimpse right here though, by watching the trailer below.
