A fun ensemble cast have been assembled for a new take on The Three Musketeers,  with two films heading our way in 2023: more here.

The Three Musketeers is a story that has seen more than its fair share of film adaptations, with the timeless tale of swashbuckling derring do in 17th century France always ripe for re-telling. Most recently on the big screen, there was the very 90s version featuring Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland and Chris O’ Donnell, which memorably featured a ballad from Sting, Rod Stewart and Bryan Adams that, er, we still sing in the shower to this day. Not to mention the 2011 film which starred Luke Evans, Milla Jovovich, Mads Mikkelsen, Christoph Waltz and Orlando Bloom. Oh, and there was a more recent BBC version too.

The irrepressible musketeers will soon be hitting our screens once more in a two film series and once again, a fun cast has been assembled to re-tell this grand old adventure yarn. The films will debut next year, on April 5th 2023 and December 13th 2023. Here’s the cast:

Eva Green as Milady DeWinter
Francois Civil as D’Artagnan
Vincent Cassel as Athos
Pio Marmaï as Porthos
Romain Duris as Aramis
Louis Garrel as King Louis XIII
Vicky Krieps as Queen Anne
Eric Ruf as Cardinal Richelieu
Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as The Duke of Buckingham
Lyna Khoudri as Constance Bonacieux
Marc Barbe as Captain de Treville
Patrick Mille as The Count of Chalais
Julien Frison as Gaston De France

Told you it was fun.

The films are currently shooting back-to-back at the moment. It was  of course, the back-to-back shooting of two film versions of The Three Musketeers that caused Hollywood to create the ‘Salkind Clause’ back in the 1970s, to ensure that actors get paid for two films, even if they complete them both in one shoot. Anyway, we’re on board for this one, and we’ll let you know as we hear more.
