Apple will be releasing the new film from the brilliant Cartoon Saloon and what’s more, we have a release date and trailer for it.

Apple has dropped a trailer and release date for its highly-anticipated new feature animation from Cartoon Saloon, the Irish studio that produced such lauded films as The Breadwinner, Song of the Sea and The Book of Kells. Named Wolfwalkers, the film follows the adventures of Robyn Goodfellowe, a young wolf hunter who becomes friends with Medb,  a mysterious young girl who may carry lycanthropic gifts.

Set during a time of magic and arcane beliefs, the film is sure to tell a touching tale about childhood, as all of Cartoon Saloon’s films thus far have done. With four current Oscar nominations to its name already, Apple is certain to be pushing the animation studio’s next effort for Oscar contention again, in the hope that a win for Wolfwalkers could add some awards sparkle to its nascent Apple TV service. As such, the film is expected to get some form of limited cinematic release before appearing on their service on December 11th, although just how limited that may be, we are yet to discover.

Wolfwalkers is directed by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart and features the voices of Sean Bean, Honour Kneafsey and Maria Doyle Kennedy. Ahead of its release, you can enjoy the trailer below.
