Clint Eastwood directs Richard Jewell, starring Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde – and here’s the trailer.

A year after he starred in and directed the surprise – and slightly odd – hit movie The Mule, and Clint Eastwood has completed another feature.

This time it goes by the name of Richard Jewell, and Warner Bros has scheduled it for a pre-Christmas release in the US.

It’s based on the true story of a man – Richard Jewell – whose actions were pivotal in saving lives back in 1996. He discovered the bomb in Atlanta, and moved quickly to ensure lots of lives weren’t lost. But then, in return, he found himself the chief suspect.

Paul Walter Hauser takes the title role, in a cast that also includes Olivia Wilde, Jon Hamm, Kathy Bates and Sam Rockwell. And here’s the first trailer for the film…

The synopsis for the movie reads as follows…

“There is a bomb in Centennial Park. You have thirty minutes.” The world is first introduced to Richard Jewell as the security guard who reports finding the device at the 1996 Atlanta bombing—his report making him a hero whose swift actions save countless lives. But within days, the law enforcement wannabe becomes the FBI’s number one suspect, vilified by press and public alike, his life ripped apart. Reaching out to independent, anti-establishment attorney Watson Bryant, Jewell staunchly professes his innocence. But Bryant finds he is out of his depth as he fights the combined powers of the FBI, GBI and APD to clear his client’s name, while keeping Richard from trusting the very people trying to destroy him.

No news yet on a UK release date, but we’ll keep you posted.
