With post production on the Ridley Scott epic Napoleon going smoothly, could we see the film land this year? Quite possibly.

Ridley Scott has a reputation for getting large scale productions done with a minimum of fuss and that may yet work to everybody’s benefit in the case of his upcoming historical epic, Napoleon. The film which was formerly known as Kitbag (and has thankfully undergone a name change) is reportedly well into post production with things running smoothly. As it stands, Apple has pushed its prime December release, the Will Smith-starring Emancipation into 2023 because of, well you know why. And so the studio is looking for a film to fill that end-of-year void. A film that might interest Oscar voters too.

Napoleon is certainly a high profile project, which looks set to chart the relationship between Napoleon and his wife, Josephine. If Apple does move the film forwards, we certainly won’t be complaining. Joaquin Phoenix is on board to play the role of the ambitious and ruthless would-be ruler with Vanessa Kirby playing his wife. The script was written by David Scarpa, who penned Scott’s All The Money In The World.

If anything, Scott seems to be speeding up his projects at the moment, which means we might have those Gladiator and Alien follow-ups that he’s been teasing, even sooner than expected. Whether that’s a good thing however, is a different matter entirely. We’ll bring you more on this story as we hear it.
