From the director of The Witch and The Lighthouse comes The Northman – and it’s just under a year away from its cinema release.

Following his impact with his films The Witch and The Lighthouse, director Robert Eggers has been busy shooting his latest historical thriller, The Northman.

The film stars Alexander Skarsgard, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicola Kidman, Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Bjork, with Eggers penning the screenplay along with Sjon. The film is said to be a Viking revenge story set in 10th century Iceland, and filming wrapped up in Northern Ireland last year.

We already knew that the film was heading to American cinemas next April, but finally we’ve seen it pop up on the UK release schedules too. The Northman will be released on 8th April 2022 over here, where it will do battle with the second Sonic The Hedgehog movie. We’re going to go out on a significant limb here and suggest that the crossover audience between the two will be quite limited.

More on the film as we hear it.
