Gone Girl actor Rosamund Pike has been cast as the lead in Pablo Larrain’s pandemic-themed thriller Rich Flu.

Following the success of the Kristen Stewart-led Princess Diana biopic Spencer, Pablo Larrain producing a thriller that takes inspiration from the pandemic. Titled Rich Flu, the film is set to star Gone Girl and I Care A Lot actor Rosamund Pike, Deadline reveals.

Strangely, the movie’s disease seems to have a specific target – rich people. The mystery disease picks off the most influential and wealthy people on the planet, starting with those who have the most material wealth. First the billionaires, then it works its way down to the multi-millionaires, and so on until it threatens anyone who has even the slightest fortune. The world (understandably) panics and everyone looks to sell off their assets. In a world of consumerism, the film asks how far people would go if wealth and possessions were suddenly a danger.

Rich Flu will be directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, who helmed The Platform. Pablo Larrain will produce through his production company Fabula, which produced Spencer, Jackie, and No. The script for the thriller is written by Gaztelu-Urrutia and Pedro Rivero, who also wrote the screenplay for The Platform, which was released internationally by Netflix in early 2020.

Rosamund Pike is an Emmy and Golden Globe-wining actor, who received an Oscar nomination for her leading role in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. She currently stars in the epic fantasy series The Wheel Of Time on Amazon Prime Video, which is based on the book series by Robert Jordan.
