The iconic Rubik’s Cube is getting its own film along with a game show, capitalising on the its ongoing popularity.

With a Tetris movie already announced and on the way, it seems like we’ll soon have another contender for the sliding, interlocking puzzle movie genre. That’s thanks to the announcement that the Rubik’s Cube, the perennially-popular combination puzzle cube, is also getting the movie treatment.

What’s more, the Rubik’s Cube film will be going one better and getting its own accompanying game show too, according to Deadline.

With Netflix’s recent limited series The Queen’s Gambit igniting a resurgence of interest in chess, Hyde Park Entertainment and Endeavour Content are teaming up to try and do the same with the classic cube. It’s not like the puzzle ever really went out of fashion though: over 450 million have been sold worldwide and world championships have taken place regularly since 2018.

The planned film adds to a growing slate for Hyde Park Entertainment, who also has a biopic of the black Wimbledon Champion Arthur Ashe, the musical animation Pashmina (with Netflix, directed by Gurinder Chadha), the romantic comedy 10 in league with Warner Bros, and Remote Control, starring Gerard Butler.

More news on this intriguing project as we hear it.
