An autumn 2022 release date is slated for Sam Mendes first film since 1917, and more details on the project are right here.
Sam Mendes has announced his next project following the hugely successful 1917. What’s more, with the new movie – going by the name of Empire Of Light – he’ll also be re-teaming with regular collaborator Roger Deakins behind the camera. This marks the fifth pairing of Mendes and Deakins, following Jarhead, Revolutionary Road and Skyfall, as well as the aforementioned 1917.
Also collaborating with Mendes on Empire Of Light will be Olivia Colman, who will take the lead in the project. The film is described as ‘a love story, set in and around a beautiful old cinema, on the South Coast of England in the 1980s.’
Searchlight Pictures will be distributing the film.
Also noteworthy is that Empire Of Light will mark Mendes’ first outing as a solo writer on a project. While details are somewhat scant at the moment, interest in this project will surely be high so we’ll let you know more as we hear it.
